Welcome. Post up what you're looking at and I'm sure you will get loads of opinions.
Name's Simon. Andrew A. suggested I stop in here when I started asking him about Miatas. I currently drive a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer. It's a nice enough car, with a good warranty, 4 doors and a good sized trunk.
After almost a year I'm bored and miss my old car-- a '99 zx2 with full bolt ons, suspension, bodykit.... etc.
And now I am looking for something to play with. I'm going crazy with nothing to play with, I don't really want to do anything with the Lancer. I've wanted something open air, and I like small cars. I've been looking at VW Karman Ghias and Miatas. I've come to the decision that a Miata would be easier to maintain and more fun... not to mention cheaper.
Only thing to do now is find an inexpensive Miata.... any help appreciated in that area.

well, i haven't found much that catches my eye.... so opinions are more than welcome.
I'd love to scoop something up in the sub 2500 range if possible.
Welcome aboard and wish you luck. At $2.500 you will find NA's and early NB's but a little tired.

Welcome, depending on the condition of the car you are looking for, it is possible to find one under $2500, but be prepared to put in some hours getting it to where you want

Don't pull the trigger to soon. Take your time and look at a lot of Miatas. A good one for the right price is out there somewhere.
Tell Andrew hi for me.

Craigslist is promising, today - a '99 for $4K, (http://dallas.craigslist.org/car/692533537.html) and a '90 that needs some things for $1200 (http://dallas.craigslist.org/car/692047081.html). If I needed (read: could get away with) another one, I'd be on my way to nab that '99, and it would probably be gone, already.

I kinda like the older ones with the pop up lights..... the NA? Sorry, I don't know much of the nomenclature yet. Any reason why NOT to look for an older one? I'm just looking for a weekend cruiser, and something to tinker with. I'm probably not going to do any performance modifications (we will see how long that lasts) but I do like some of the aftermarket bodykits...the front bumper just needs something... I'm a rice whore I guess
The $1200 one Walsted posted is already gone..... as are the last 3 i have called on in the last couple days.
I kinda have a hookup on paint and bodywork, so I'm more concerned about a solid engine and tranny.... something that will run without too many headaches.
I appreciate all y'alls support. I'd forgotten how much i missed car crap.
Doubt i'll end up winning this one...bank account isn't filled yet... but...

Hey Simon, I see you followed my advice to get on here. Good look with the search for a Miata. Btw NA is the pop up headlight Miata's.
Hey is that the same one I saw on Craigslist earlier last week?

dunno about the hubcaps, lol. I thought the car looked good overall.... they ended the auction early supposedly because it sold locally. Kinda sucks....
Still looking for a car, everything I go after seems to get sold... the car from autotrader, and the car from Craigslist were both gone before I could get to them. I'm kinda getting frustrated, I've been researching for the last 3 weeks, and I'm itching to start on something.... and yet nothing
Don't get frustrated man, it took me about 5 or 6 weeks since I started looking to find my miata. The good ones do go fast but just keep at it and be prepared to go and look at or make a deposit on any that may fit your needs and before too much longer you will find one you will be happy with. That said this is kinda peak convertible buying time being the summer, and with gas as it is alot of people are picking up miatas just for the gas mileage. Your ability to have the paint and body be shot will help you out alot because you will be able to consider cars that others can not, otherwise I would say that you might have a hard time finding a 1.8 for your 2 grand. But with some patience the right car for you will come along, just be prepared to snatch it up as soon as it does.

I'm looking at 1.6 or 1.8-- either would please me.
If I found a wow car I could spend more than $2500-3000 by a bit.... but i'd have to be in love. I'd rather spend a bit less up front and fix things how i want.
