I would probably be interested in selling my 02 Protege. 97k miles. Synthetic fluids since about 20k (redline, mobil1) and has been maintained pretty well. I have all the parts and factory service manuals to do the upcoming timing belt and water pump @ 105k miles.
Still gets about 28-30mpg. 4 speed auto. It's peppy but not fast. And I wear a 13 shoe. And Karter Bollmann (6'3) used to own one.
Interested? :)

On second thought, get him a Mini Cooper S.![]()

After you sold the GT3 out from under him, he probably doesn't.
The story I heard was the poor kid took a friend out to the garage to see the car he was going to get when he got his license and the Porsche was gone and a Mini was there instead
I'd never drive anything after something so traumatic as that!
Thinking more about a new Kia with the warranty. Are Kias cool cars for high school kids?
Between the Kia and the size 13 shoe, the chicks will be all over him.
When I was in Allen High School, it didn't matter too much as long as it was'nt the bus. Most of the students had mom and dad's old hand me down car. Some were BMW's and Jag's, but most were more reasonable.
That was back in 1988.![]()

My neighbor gave his 16yo his old 528i.
So Kia = bad, M3 = bad?
Ask the kid if he wants a new Kia or a new pair of Nike's. Try to show some testicular fortitude.![]()
Why would you buy a kid a new anything as the first car??
Buy some cheap POS® and see if he can keep it alive and not rip the fenders off of it for a while then get him something nicer.

Even better, make it a Touring!

+1. Buy something new enough that it won't eat you up with repairs costs, but old and cheap enough that you won't care if/when he bangs it up.
If you want to reward him, buy him a new car for graduation, assuming his grades are good and he proves between now and then that he can take care of a car.
