Thread: Question for the Masses

    Default Question for the Masses

GUys, I am toying with the idea of selling my miata to buy a small truck (I know I know, I love the miata, but we are starting to see a need for a small truck)....Anyone willing to give me an honest estimate of what you think I could get for it in the current market??

It is a 92 sunburst yellow, 57000 miles. It has a new stereo (still have the factory, just not installed) and I have installed aftermarket headrest speakers...Just replaced the transmission and belts 3 months ago (did all other 60000 mile maintenence). There is a small thumb size dent by the door and a tear along the zipper in the top (could likely be repaired by a professional). Clean title, second owner, etc...

I dont know if i even really want to sell it, but just curious what yall think it would go for private party.

You should keep it and rent a home depot/lowe's truck when needed. However, if I were shopping for a car like yours I'd expect to be spending ~3-3.5k and wonder why the transmission was replaced. Sorry, it's a buyers' market right now.

Replaced the transmission is it an Automatic?

Thanks Nails...i realized I made a typo. I didn't replace the transmission, just the clutch....It is a standard (the only way to drive a miata)...

Do you need a truck daily? If not, buy a cheap compact truck for Home Depot runs and keep the Miata.

If you only occasionally need to haul stuff and have a garage, get a hidden hitch and a HF trailer.
You can store the trailer against the wall when not needed.
That will keep you in the Sunburst and cost under $500 total.

Plenty people have been in your position and regretted selling their NA, in the long run.
They also played hell trying to find another nice NA. (you'd be screwed trying to find another nice HZ)
Just a month ago, DriftDevil would have traded you in a second.

    Good luck with that decision.

Go to the Pricing and Dealer forum on miata.net and ask the same question. You'll get about 15 Personal message offers to buy/see the car.

Following that forum I would say market value for your car is between $5k and $6500 or more, if you paintless dent repair the dent and fix the zipper. Here's a super clean example.

    Good luck with you decision.

I'm sure Gary would buy it to feed his appetite for Sunburst Miatas...

What rogue said. I have the HF trailer and it has hauled anything I've needed hauled from rental equipment to firewood to 6' folding tables and chairs.

The only problem I have with the trailer is that with any thickness of bed, it will not fold. I just put a new 3/4" deck on it last week and it lives beside the carport.

Guys, thanks for all of your advice and estimates. I think I was just couped up with the top on all winter. Now that I can put the top back down I remember why I bought it in the first place..I actually went out and test drove a truck yesterday and it took about 2 minutes in that thing to realize how boring it is to drive anything right now other than my miata...I have come back to my senses! Hah, with that being said, anyone recommend a good upholstery shop in the mid-cities area (any that do repairs on tops)?

    Thanks

There's one in Euless on Highway 10. Right at the Westpark Way intersection.

Benny & James is the name I think.
