Gutless cat found in my exhaust ? WTF?
Took miata cat convertor off today to replace the gaskets and hardware. What I found
was a gutless shell with no internals ! It looked like the oem. Very old. one bolt was also broken.
Now I know why the exhaust always smelled rich. Not sure if it purged itself of all the guts or if somebody in the past was going for a few extra horses...
Anyway a new flanged one is coming from tennesee to meet up with me tomorrow for the installation. Should be way better than before...

Someone probably took the copper out of it and sold it for some extra cash. It's very common for crooks to steal catalytic converters for their copper. I once heard a story of theives going through an entire parking lot and cutting off all the cats one night.
It's usually platinum the thieves are after.
