Thread: Front right brake problem

    Default Front right brake problem

Ok so a few months ago I replace my brake pads and notice on the front right caliper the bolt on the bottom was snapped off at the end. I went ahead and replaced my pads and put it all back together tightening the top bolt as much as I could without busting it off. It has since come loose on me and it moves a bit and has actually knocked off all my wheel weights for balancing. So I need to either see if someone either has the part or knows a way to get the bolt out.

Here is a picture of the bolt. As you can see I do have a drill and I test fit it to see if I could maybe drill it out with a reverse drill bit and it does fit. Think that will work? I have never done that before so tips would be great if you think it's possible.

Or just go get another caliper bracket and throw that one in the trash.

I'd echo changing out the caliper bracket as the best option. I believe the re-manufactured calipers from the parts houses come on a bracket with fresh hardware and slider pins.

Doesn't that bolt have to come out to remove the caliper?

Looks like he may have it off allready.

Here is a picture of the bracket:

Red Arrows are where the caliper mounts. Yellow arrows are the bolts you remove to pull the caliper bracket.

Looks like the caliper is off but the slider pin is what's broken off and is stuck in the bracket.

yes, the caliper is off. There is a rubber cover that sits between the bracket and caliper. It creates a gap and the bolt broke right where the caliper sits to swing out. crazy! Sounds like I will be hunting down a knew bracket. Think I will see if my local autozone has it. I do not really want to change out the whole caliper. If I do that I might as well do the left side and get me a knew rotor since the back of that one is messed up a bit. Thanks for the ideas. I didn't know the bracket came off with just the two bolts. That makes it so easy to change out.

That's a lot of money for a piece of metal. :-/ thanks for the info guys. Thought I would have to go to the stealer for this one.

I still need that bolt. Dealer would be my only place for that one?

NVM. I feel stupid. Oreilly's has the bolt as well.

Be sure to grease the slider pins when you reassemble everything - if they were dry (and they'll dry out over time) that could have caused everything to bind up. The guys at the counter will know what to give you if you ask for slider pin lube. It's generally a very high temp grease with a lot of ceramic in it. The slider pin bolts are a consumable and all the parts houses should have them.
