High Performance Driving Seminar
I often hear folks asking what the benefits are of membership in the SCCA and while there are many answers to that question, I want to let all of you know about a local benefit that’s been arranged specifically for Texas Region Members.
I’m sure many of you are familiar with Dr. Bob Woods, affectionately known around the SCCA as Doctor Bob, for his many contributions to the FSAE program locally as well as nationally. Dr. Woods is a professor at UT Arlington and is an expert in the areas of dynamic systems, modeling and simulation, control systems, fluidics and fluid power control, logic systems, and automotive engineering. Examples of his tutelage can be found in the many FSAE race cars that his students have designed, built and raced successfully around the country.
Drawing upon his 29 years of teaching and research in these areas, Dr. Woods has developed a seminar on racing vehicle dynamics that has garnered wide-spread acclaim from Club Race and Rally participants as well as Soloists, and Doctor Bob has graciously agreed to present that seminar once again.
The seminar will cover a variety of racing dynamics including tire performance characteristics, the friction circle and weight transfer, braking techniques including trail braking into a corner, when to shift, and how to exit a corner. Techniques for developing optimum speed through esses/slaloms and chicanes will be discussed, as well as how to practice race techniques daily.
Sponsored by Texas Region SCCA, the seminar will be free for all current SCCA members. Attendance will be limited to ensure interaction and lively Q & A so even though attendance is free to Members, pre-registration will be required and will be managed through MotorsportReg.
Here are the details of the seminar:
DATE: April 29, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. (approximately 2 hours long)
LOCATION: UT Arlington, in Nedderman Hall, Room 100 (http://www.uta.edu/maps/map?id=NH)
ENTRY: via MotorsportReg, http://msreg.us/DrBob2013
So, if you’re looking for that little extra ”edge” on the track or the course at your next event I’d strongly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to sit down with Doctor Bob for a couple of hours next month. He has an amazing amount of insight into what makes a car go fast, or not, and he’s going to share that with all of us; I’m going to be there for sure, and hope to see many of you there as well.
I don't know UTA, where is a legal place to park near Nedderman Hall?
