Thread: How To Get A Salvage Rebuilt Vehicle Back The Road-Paper Work?

Exclamation How To Get A Salvage Rebuilt Vehicle Back The Road-Paper Work?

I need guidance in how to get my salvaged, repaired 99 NB back on the road with all the correct paper work. My 99 was salvaged and repaired a couple years ago. I never apply for a salvage title. I keep up with the yearly inspection and paying my regular registration. It is time to transfer the ownership to my son. I need to get all the paper work straight to make the transfer go through properly. I search on the web and is very confused by those "he says and she says". I welcome help from those of you who have gone through this process.

What are the steps in submitting the different forms? What forms to use? Where to go to get the forms and send them back?
Where to get the "vehicle inspection report" for the repair of the damage which resulted in the "salvage"?

    Thanks,
    Gab

Was the title ever branded? If you took a settlement but kept the car and already had the title, it is likely that it is still considered a clean title by the state.
If it was salvaged, then you can find the inspection information on the TX DMV website. I think it may be somewhat like a home built trailer, where you take it to their inspector to sign-off, but I admit I'm not certain for cars. It may be as simple as an affidavit and a description of the repairs. Hence, the brand remaining as salvage-rebuilt.

Ozmdd, I took the salvage settlement, bought the car back from them, repaired the car and has done nothing else as far as paper work with the state on the title. The title is NOT "brnaded" and I still has the clean green title. How can I get it branded? I will check out the TX DMV website for more info. Thanks! Do you know any DMV inspection site in the east side of Big D?

    Thanks again,
    Gab

Call or go by the DMV and see what they have in their database. Likely still clean title if you did the buy back.

I know the plan now. Drive your son's NB out to California and drive the new ND back to Texas!

You will need to get the car inspected, it wouldn't hurt to get a "green sheet". That is what they used to be called, it only cost a $1 extra back when I was dealing in dozens of salvage title cars and motorcycles. The green sheet was used on salvage titles or out of state vehicles. Go to the title office with your original title and the green sheet / inspection report and they should take them along with a little $ from you and viola............your shiny new salvage / rebuilt title will show up in the mail, just like the one I proudly have on my NB...........

Gab, I think you are in the clear. When you buyback the car, you actually just reduced your settlement, meaning you never sold the car in the first place. I'm 99.9% certain your title is free and clear, like it never happened. Might show up as an accident on Carfax, but not a total loss.

Just did a vin check, it does flag as "salvage"! Now, I need to find out how to covert the clean title I have on hand to salvage so that I can transfer to my son to get it registered in Ca. I am a dump axx in this matter and need kind of need spoon feed help on this!

Take the salvage report and your existing title up to the tax office in Rockwall. They will get you what you need.

There is no more greensheet. I just titled a vehicle bought out of state and they just gave a me a print out inspection sheet that had a bar code on it, same as the other vehicles I've had inspected recently.

As an FYI, in California there is no inspection other than a smog check.

so you can have a clunker with no brakes or lights, so long as you aren't poluting? ...sounds about right...

Writing tickets for broken tails, blinkers, windshields, etc. generates more income. And then you pay sales tax on rectifying.
