Default Best Loan a Tool Evar!!!

Smelled Antifreeze at the last NTAXS event tried to Blame Sammmm's car. But surprise surprise it was Vivid!

Couldn't find the leak sometimes I'd smell antifreeze and sometimes I wouldn't.

So this AM I went and got the Pressure Tester from Auto-Zone and in less than a Minute I had it figured out!

Don't forget to get the required Adapter!

    Thar she blows!!

Little hose that runs from the back of the motor to the oil cooler. Squirting like a drunk boy scout on a campfire!

Never seen a clutch line leak like that!

Stupid question time: this is just the adapters, you need to provide the compressor right?

I bought my own tester a few years ago after Rogue used one to expose a leak on my car.

Its just a hand pump that fits onto the radiator with an adapter. That and the block leak tester are must-have items (IMHO) for anyone who deals with older cars a lot, or pushes them hard. I bought both after getting tired of checking-out the loaners.

I just saved a buddy from changing a head gasket because the pressure test and chemical leak test, along with compression test, led us to a failing water pump. The truck actually ran cool enough that it wasn't overheating except on long stretches at highway speed. The coolant would eventually overheat and overflow the tank, but evaporate/drip away and not leave puddles. Thought for sure it was escaping into the cylinder, but no exhaust gasses in coolant led us to look for other possibilities.

Couldn't you just put a valve stem in an old radiator cap and use a bicycle pump? Trying to be TCB.

Sure but you wouldn't want to exceed the maximum pressure of the cooling system with these new fanged plastic radiators and so on.... Quick and easy way to create new and exciting leaks!

Who has one of those antiques?

I check the pressure up to 20psi and have found many leaks/failing hoses that owners didn't know existed.
If 20psi would compromise the radiator, i'd want to find out in a shop.

Been there, done that, found the leaks. Actually had the valve stem on the overfill tube, so I didn't have to mess with adding a stem to the cap.
