My name is Alex, I'm 22 years old and I've been wrenching on cars since I was 15. I've owned a lot of variety of cars but never a Miata. I worked on a Miata when I was 17 in highschool auto tech and the test drive after the repair is hard to describe without me involentarily breathing heavily . Recently my 4 runner blew the headgasket and I really have no desire to work on it, the 16-19mpg was killing me. But still not as bad as my 14-16 with my current suburban (I hate this suv). I want something that gets good mpg, I was looking for a 1st generation crx which I enjoyed owning before but I can't find any. I found a ugly miata locally for less than 1,000 so I started searching for forums and I came across this one... and then saw a Miata I really wanted f/s here!

I've owned over 35 cars ... a few worth mentioning

I've owned a rx7 and a b2200... just about the only mazda's I've owned. The B2200 was a mess, I got it that way.. sold it quickly. The RX7 was a mess when I got it but it was a lot of fun, the coolant seals gave out not long after I got it, I then sold it. I've done a little drifting but never anything else, I would not mind autocrossing but I would love to get some massive brakes on a Miata and take one to a real track. I go up to Dallas often to Mineral Wells for drifting.

Welcome. On the other side of the coin, I bought a Miata 20 years ago and still have it.

Yeah I've owned a few cars.. I'm really looking for a fun car that requires little maintence. My suburban is the devil, I feel like I've invested every last dollar to keep it on the road.

I've always wanted to make my own used car dealership that refurbs old japanese cars and re-sells them. This is something I would do for very little profit if I won the lotto =)

Be on the look out for me a under 2,000$ miata that would be a good daily :)

You don't need "massive brakes" to take a Miata to the track. Good performance brake pads and fresh, high performance fluid are about the only things you need.

Saw a used white '92-ish f/s for $1,300 on CL about a week ago. Can't really remember why it was so cheap, but I remember being tempted by the price.

    Regards.

    I found this locally for 1500. http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/1485878459.html

It looks like it needs paint work, which I really don't want to do and cannot afford at the asking price, but it says OBO, If I could get it for about 800 I could get a decent paint job for 700.

    Welcome! I'd love an 85 or 86 Corolla. That's quite a list.

They are a lot of fun! I just wish they had more power, most dyno in around 80-90whp stock. My co worker has close to 250whp with his turbocharged 85 gt-s. Got my money finally but all the cheap miatas are gone... looks like another honda for me
