Default Group Buy from the pointy board - $50 for a set of e-code H4 lights and bulbs

They'll fit any car with 7" round headlights - including, of course, the 1990-97 Miata.

If we can't get 50 people, we probably won't order the parts. We're going to let this run until February 28th.

I am in as well. Thanks for the heads up. Has anyone seen the difference in light quantity and quality between these Bosch and Cibies or Hella e-codes?

Only know what I've read. Reports say that output between the Hellas and Bosch units are comparable. Cibies are a little better but at a higher price point.

    Default E-codes

    http://www.flyinmiata.com/groupbuy/

    e-code lighting conversion

1990-97 Miatas can benefit greatly from a set of good reflectors and H4 bulbs. We've come across a great deal on Bosch E-Code reflectors, so we're passing it along to you. These reflectors usually sell for around $75 each, and we've managed to package them with bulbs for $50/pair. That's two reflectors and two bulbs, everything you need for one car.
It's a killer deal - but we need to buy a lot of them to make it happen. If we can't get 50 orders in this group buy, we won't be able to get the price. Tell all your friends, these will fit any car with 7" reflectors. Keith's going to put a set on his MG. Bill's putting a set in his Opel GT and 2002.
TWO E-code lights, w/55/60W bulbs, ready to bolt in.
Every 1990-97 Miata should have a set.

So what are the downsides of e-codes? You may have to replace with OEM at inspection time? What about "flashing"; that phenomenon that blinds oncoming traffic when you hit a bump. Is that only HIDs-type setups or these too? And bulb replacements can be had anywhere in different colors I hear, so the plug I guess is "universal"?

Thinking hard about a pair of these, but to be honest, I don't do a ton of night driving and hadn't really noticed my OEMs sucking. I can recognize a great price though, and with so many people jumping on this, I feel I need to look into it more.

One disadvantage of these is that mine are now on backorder from FM. Awesome.

Otherwise, there is no downside to E-codes. You won't have to replace anything at inspection time. The light is much brighter, and the pattern is much more well-defined. Properly-adjusted lights won't blind any oncoming traffic. The bulb is a standard H4 bulb that you can buy down at VatoZone. They are plug and play in your Miata.

The main difference is in the reflector and diffuser, not just the bulb. Once you try them, you'll kick yourself for not doing it sooner - regardless of how much or little night driving you do.

    Jump on it and wait...

they aren't backordered in the traditional sense. I think the software just says backordered when you order. They weren't going to order them until they had enough people..... although I'm not 1005 sure of that. Original date for the end of the group buy was end of feb. They only just placed the first order as far as I know.....

Ah... didn't think of that. Since the GB window closes at the end of this month, I guess they're waiting until then to order the rest (or maybe all). Duh.

If they are anything like my Hella Ecodes I would be getting another set if my car was an NA model. Those combined with PIAA bulbs had awesome output. Unfortunately with my coilovers set to slammed on my '97 I did get some bounce on really bad roads. I'm sure I probably nearly blinded a few people on night runs.

The random times I get back to dfwmiata cost me here...too late!...But an internet search took me to another group that was getting in on the group-buy too. Someone from the Bus Depot (they do VW stuff - especially the VW Bus/Van?) chimed in with this link. Their price is apparently pretty close to this all the time and they matched up. Never heard of them before, but I think I may give it a shot???

I'm assuming that link will eventually die, so this other one may be better then. It's the spot on their site for just the headlights @ $44/pair. They'll sell you a couple of German H4 60/55w bulbs for $3.95 each so that would end up being a little over $50, but not much.

I ordered mine for the $50 package deal and it's going to end up being right at $58 with shipping. I'll let you know how it comes out...
