Thread: 8/31 Wed GTG - Mid Cities??

  1. #1

Default 8/31 Wed GTG - Mid Cities??

Thinking about trying to have a GTG this Wednesday somewhere in the middle, maybe HEB or Grapevine?? Anyone got a spot that would welcome a few miatas and ave good a/c with a parking lot view?

I know the Bone Daddies on 75 and Spring Valley has plenty of parking and a cool bar/patio, but not very far west. Of course, if it's only north and eastsiders, that'd make a good happy hour GTG spot!!

Post your thoughts IF you will make either option. No need to tell me if you are staying home. :)

We did Willhoite's in Grapevine once and had a surprisingly good turnout. IIRC, the food was good and fairly TCB friendly. I'd be up for a change of scenery if some of the Westies want to venture out.

If you're not opposed to Lewisville, there's a good selection of breastaurants near Vista Ridge Mall.

Bonedaddy's and most other Sports Bars tend to be way too loud to hold any sort of conversation. I'm up for an indoor location, but not if it's super loud.

Lewisville is too far north for me. Willhoites is not very parking-friendly, and the construction in that area sucks balls.

Anyone have an idea further south, maybe along 183 or I-30 near 360?

There is a Sonic on 360 just north of Post and Paddock Rd. on the Northbound service rd that woudl be very central for all of DFW. It is relatively large and remodeled, and is not in a residential area, so it shouldn't be packed-out. We can get an entire row to ourselves.

I'd be willing to give this a try tomorrow night to get some more westsiders in on the GTG. I know its a little farther for the Eastsiders, but shouldn't be too bad, and its easy for the people who live north of DFW. Besides, who doesn't like burgers and ice cream??

    I'll be there at 7:30.

(If nobody shows-up, expect Keller's to be the default location indefinitley. Personally, I'm tired of the poor service there.)

Unless there is a commitment to come out from some westsiders, I see little point in eastsiders driving out in their direction.

True to both of the previous posts.

If any westsiders are willing to commit, please do so by tonight. If nobody does, we will move it back east tomorrow.

I've been kindly informed via pm that nobody from the westside will actually show-up for a GTG unless we hold it in their driveway, so I'm back to looking for Eastside air-conditioned locations NOT in Plano, Frisco, Lewisville or McKinney. Richardson is my northern limit.

Can't say I'm a fan of Keller's either - it's like hanging out in some dirty back alley or something.

A few of us met up at Duke's Roadhouse in Plano back in July. They've got a really nice outdoor patio with lots of room to lounge, big screen TVs, and you can carry on a conversation.

Move it there and I might even be convinced to deliver your new tires instead of putting them on the S2000.

Duke's is fine as long as it's nice enough to sit out on the patio, but the last time I was there the music was way too loud inside, and the service was honestly worse than Keller's...

What about some place like Jake's in Addison? Lots of parking, plenty of seating, and it's near the tollway on Beltline.

There's also a Twin Peaks and a Sherlocks in the same area. Just throwin' things out there...

Oooh, I do like that Jakes. I used to play acoustic shows there, and you are right that it is a nice location with decent parking.

OK, I'm up for that. Altian??

I'm a definite maybe. Let me check with SWMBO, since I'll have to take her car if I'm delivering tires.

I'm in for the usual Wed Nite.

On Thursdays, I think the DFWMazdas kiddos take it over with a herd of GLCs...

A few of us tried this place awhile back. Big parking lot and patio both covered. Very reasonably priced domestic bottled beer and good food.

How's the Ghetto Factor down at Pappas? Last time I was down that way, I didn't want to leave my car unattended at the movie theater... and I think some kid got shot later that night. But that was on a weekend.

Also, as a traffic consideration, 635 has been a cluster going westbound past Midway since they started all that construction... just sayin...
