Thread: Airbag light?

    Default Airbag light?

My '94 has decided it was to flash the airbag light five times followed by one flash. So I take that to be error 51.

Miata.net's search isn't giving me much info. So far all I have figured out is error 51 - System Down fuse open. But not 100% sure how to fix.

    * Side note my daughter is going to use this car so I want the airbag system to work.

    Cool Miata.net chart - http://www.miata.net/garage/airbag_blink.html

SM and LeMons builders should have some??

BR may have it seeing as he has an aftermarket steering wheel.

Then again, he probably has a few laying in the shop on cars that are used for parts where the airbag did'nt go off.

I'm not sure if i'll have much time in the very near future, but i've been thinking of yanking out the airbag module on my 94 to stop the incessant blinking. As far as I know it's still good. Any idea of how tough it would be to pull it without yanking the dash or the gauge hood out?

If nobody else had one mine would definitely be TCB friendly.

Looks like after a brief peek it can be taken out without pulling the gauge hood. (But I could be wrong)

Really depends on what code it is blinking the code will pretty much determine if it is any good.

Oh yea does anyone happen to have a 1994 factory manual??

Is there a section in it on the airbag system??

I need to figure out why it went to blinking before I replace the most expensive part in the system....

If you're referring to the module in my car I'm pretty sure the blinking code is saying my airbags are sitting on the shelf in the garage. Before I took the airbags out it didn't blink at all, should be all good.

    Ohhhh Ahhhh!

Does anyone know if you can just yank the airbag computer?? Will the car get mad and blink (more) or beep or do other undesirable things??

I can't find anything about how to check them out....still looking. Just disco the battery before you start.

Do Mazda air bags have a life time warranty?

Honda fixed the seat belt on my '02 last summer.

^ I doubt they'd still cover a 17 year old car but i'll definitely check.

Got this reply on the pointy board =

If you can micro solder and acid clean a board, you can do the repair yourself for about $5. For most of us, it's a $200 module. At least yours is still the $200 module and accessible, 95+ is a $500 module and a dash removal and yes, they are also failing. Bad news is that I've been told some of those same capacitors are used in the ECU

A black electrical tape is your TCB fix if you don't care if the airbag acutally works or not. If you want a more elegant way to fix it, you can take the cluster out and paint the light bulb with black paint or put a 'light bulb condom' on it.

If this is going to be your daughter first car, you may want to get the module just to save yourself a heart attack or having your wife divorsing you for being a CB when accident happens. It actually sounds funny that she will be driving a car older than her!
