Thread: Solstice Z0K Club Sport

    Default Solstice Z0K Club Sport

It seems Pontiac is getting rather serious about this...

Well, General Motors has made it official, the Solstice is going to compete in National-level Sports Car Club of America road racing. The Solstice racer will make its debut this weekend at the SCCA National event at New Hampshire International Speedway.

The upstart Pontiac will race in the Showroom Stock B class, alongside the Mazda Miata, BMW Z4, Acura RSX and Honda Civic.

You can get your own Solstice racer by ordering your Solstice with the Z0K Club Sport production order option package, which includes ABS, a limited-slip differential, improved power steering cooler and the FE3 suspension option (which will be standard on the Solstice GXP).

Racers will want a few extras before hitting the track, including the nifty racing-only hardtop, racing tires, rollcage, safety harness, etc.

That racing-only hardtop should look something like this one, shown here on the Solstice drift car that's replacing the GTO drift car.

Well you know, Titus, that you can never get enough power steering.

You don't need to tell me. Ask Bean... I am fully aware of the importance of power steering.

I would have rush out to get one if the NC has the same kind of aggressive styling and fix the suspension.

Yep, but the one thing it won't have is a/c. Nor can you combine the Z0K package with any other exisintg options. Which is going to be teh suck for southern autocrossers, because this is most likely the car that will replace the '99 SPort as "the car to have" in C Stock. Nothing like shelling out 20 large for a car with no a/c.

I'm still looking forward to the GXP, though. I might just have to test drive one of those.

Err... no. See the March Fastrack. Page 32. Item 1. Z0K Package legal for Stock competition. Since this is an option package and not a separate model, it falls under the current Stock Category listing for the Solstice, which is in C Stock.

I'd expect the GXP to go straight to A Stock. It would throroughly annihilate everything else currently in B Stock

Well don't that just suck ? I guess if people can afford to have a toy car for weekend racing this is prety cool. Sucks for us working schmucks, though.

Aw come on let me get A/C!! I need A/C!

Wonder if Mazda is paying any attention to what Lutz is doing?? Sure would be nice if Mazda would offer up a counter offensive!

But, I still think I'd rather have an Elise.

If the Elise weren't twice as expensive as the Miata or Solstice, so would I!

Before you get all excited about an Elise... have you actually tried to get in or out of one? It was quite a challenge... I can't imagine having one for regular driving around.

I can actully get in one. Plus it would not be used as a "regular" car it would sit in the garage waiting for autocrosses much like the '99 does now.

At least one more season with the '99 then we will make some fleet chages.

My experience was that getting IN wasn't really the problem. Getting OUT was really the issue.
