    Default Fire Extinguisher

I search "fire extinguisher" in the search tool and I get mostly threads about handguns... this lot is a scary bunch (lol).

Ok, so do many miata owners carry a fire extinguisher in the car? The other day I fired mine up after about a two-week sit and it stunk up the garage with smells that had me worried (somewhere between burning plastic and ... kerosine or mineral spirits...sort of acrid but semi-sweet at the same time. But I ramble...)

Whereas if my old pos Ford Exploder burned, I'd have watched it go happily, I'd be less happy to see the Miata go. For those of you who do carry, where to you strap it down? Especially those who do not have rollbars.

    Regards.

You sure this isn't about handguns?

    That's what insurance is for.

Unless you have a lot of extra money tied up in it, such as a FI setup or high dollar custom radio setup, I say:

I've seen a few other threads emphasising the importance of mounting them securely so they don't become projectiles in an accident.

The Halons can be really tiny and light while still putting out a big fire easily. They are not cheap however and you should be careful not to breath the gas (displaces oxygen). I would stay away from the powder types as they make a bigger mess than the fire and the vibration of a car can cause the powder to settle and pack solid. If you are stuck using one of these they should be mounted horizontally to prevent settlement.

I have one like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Amere...item22f8c22d5e
