Mouglie 93 NA

93 virgin car (stock) belong to some lady (35 maybe) white/tan
leather seats seem worn. 144k miles. valve cover gasket needs
replacement, next week its getting new spark plugs/wires. 14lbs
wheels (stock hollow ones). replaced the radio and took off the
visors, no spare tire, a bit of hail damage, broken antenna/motor.
no power locks but power windows, driver window switch needs replacement.
windows go up reeeaaallly slow. abs and power steering...

dunno if i should work on the 1.6L or swap for the 1.8L...
i'd like to keep the 1.6L but its seriously weak, low oil pressure
on stop lights, (probably thin oil)...

I'm definately planning on making it out this coming wednesday
unless its too cold... hahaa... the poor engine topped out at 105mph...
thats serious weakness, pissed me off too.

Hey congrats! If it was me I would try and fix some of the broken stuff then look at mods. I would really consider a greddy kit over any kind of swap. It is TCB approved, but I would make sure the engine is in tip top condition first.

thanks for the advice... i'm definately going to consider this engine as it feels like its got a nice wideband to play with. The car should be getting an alignment and wheels balanced sometime this coming week... total cost=$0...

I'm thinking about naming it, lol... some girls name...


I also notice the upper rubber shift boot was torn... bushing in the shifter feels nice though, this car hasn't seen too much rough shifting.

Before you get carried away with the low oil pressure, make sure you have a good oil filter on it. A Fram filter can cause that.

Windows are easy to fix. Get you some spray lithium grease and spray it down the tracks and 'voila. The parts group shows to have a black power window switch for $25. Linkie

The sprak plug wires, as you know, are bad about breaking down and arching against the head. That would cause the car to seem weak, if you are only getting spark to three of the plugs.

If you need to replace the valve cover gasket anyway, I would consider going ahead and doing the timing belt at the same time unles you know for sure how many miles are on the timing belt. I am parenoid that way, seeing all of the mid '80s BMW's that came into the shop with bent valves and all. :drive:

The miata is a non-interference engine. If the timing belt breaks it just makes it harder to put on the new one cause you have to line everything up.

Solutions for the slow window. (Don't ask me how I know!)

Clean the switch

Clean window tracks

The other suggestions on the oil filter and the valve cover are good ideas. An oil change is something I'd do immediately. I'd also look into a leakdown test to see the status of the motor.

Also jump Ten and GND to see if there are any codes. A clogged cat and/or bad 02 sensor could cause the poor accelleration.

Other things to look at. Rear CAS O-Ring. If it's leaking it will blow the hoses to the heater core.

Condition of all hoses.

Condition of belts

Swap the thermostat and coolant flush.

If the car never had a timing belt replaced I'm confident it would have broken by now. Mine lasted 109k miles.

Oh... and congrats on being a Miata owner again. NAs rule!!!!

yah i forgot about the 10 and GND trick, lol... I'm definately luving this car but its nothing like an NB with sports suspension thats for sure...

Good to know. I had been wondering about that. The Fiat's were another piston poker. At the time Mazda designed the Miata, everyone seemed to be making the engines with interfering valves. I am just glad that the manufacturers are going back to chains for timing.

Not on the 1.6L... The CAS is on the other side of the engine than the 1.8L ones.

If you do take the CAS out to look at it you should replace that little rubber cap that's on the back of the head. When it finally deteriorates enough to leak you'll go nuts trying to figure out where that water is coming from.

well the window switches have been cleaned, took them apart and it looked like it was burned... now they work alright but now i'm considering changing the switches, i like the style on the NB's better...
