I can't make the Street Tire challenge this weekend... anyone else going out to Der Mineralischring for the Porsche Club event on the 12th?
I will not be able to make it or the Time Trial the day before. If you have not attended one of their time trails, then you might want to give it a try. They are a lot of fun.
How long do they usually last? A time trial that is
WRX74 is correct...the Mav Time Trials are generally done by 4pm unless they have timing problems, rain delays, or a massive turn-out. Hope to see you there!
I'll be there with my "just got running again last week-end" Miata. Running my first event in a very long time without boost. I have special sticky bottom shoes so I can stick my left foot out the door and help me accelerate (Fred Flintstone style) out of the corners. ;-)
Kidding aside, I'm kinda looking forward to concentrating on maximizing the speed through the corners again...like a true Miata driver. I will have to learn new downshft points since the SC allowed me to pull really well as low as 3K rpm.
Anyone reading this that knows about the VICS on a 99 Miata please see my question I'll be posting right after this in the tech and chat section.
Bummer that Jerret won't be there. Slowchild...will you be there in an alternate vehicle??? Like to see it run crappy tires and all. ;-)

Interesting that the TT event on Club Registration is not showing up. Anyone else having that issue? I am trying to free up and make it.
hmmm...haven't tried to register yet...usually wait until Thursday so I'll know better how the weather is going to be. I'll try it and notify Travis if it doesn't work for me either.
BTW, hope you can have the SS out there!!

I found the TT event is not showing up either. The AX on Sunday is showing up. I emailed Travis (the event chair) at the PCA address and his personal email. Hopefully he'll get it fixed soon. If he tells me anything I'll pass it on.

Still waiting on results from the LAST TT/autox!
I smell a boycott coming!
The TT event is now open for registration. The registrar thought it was already online. I've registrated successfully. Hope to see you guys there.
OZMDD and others concerned about the posting of times....
I've already mentioned it and found there is a lack of volunteers to take care of getting it on the website. IF you find it unacceptable that the times are not posted, YOU can help us all out by getting on the MAV website and going to the contacts section and clicking on the TT chairperson (Travis), and emailing him that YOU will do the leg-work (or finger-work) to get it posted. If you don't have the technical skills (I don't), then find someone who can. I'm not going to mention it to Travis anymore. He is a volunteer...they are all volunteers and I'm happy just to get the seat time at the events and to get to mingle with like-minded car people like yourself and others at the events. Remember before you say "it's not the Miata club" that the group that does TT and AX welcomes anyone...they are absolutely NOT Porsche-centric...so they welcome help from anyone interested in making the events happen for the benefit of all cars/drivers. They want us there to get enough cars to make the events happen and to have the diversity of cars...even if Slowchild was setting TTOD. :-) Help make it happen to your satisfaction by volunteering to post the times.
You'll have to excuse me...I'm an old man and tend to get this way from time to time (okay...maybe most of the time). Dad mode /off

I have attended a few autocross events... SCCA, ER, & NTAXS. I know what to expect and what they are. Can someone please tell me what a TT is like? Kinda a day in the life of.
Thanks
Essentially, they will lay out the following course on a 55 acre tarmac that was originally designed to instruct masses of helicopter pilots. There is no fender-to-fender racing, so you do not need to worry about hitting another car. They instead go by lap times.
http://mav.pca.org/Events/Autocross/...Course1New.jpg
When driving this course, you are in third and fourth gears and hitting about 85 MPH entering turn three, but turn five is my fav.
How it works is everyone gets 30 minutes in the morning to drive the course as much as they want at about half speed. This gives you a chance to get to know the course and the line you should take in the corners. You can have an instructor on this. The basics are pretty simple, really.
When the timed runs start, half of the participants will go work the course (picking up any cones, calling in penalties, and so on) while the other half makes their timed runs. You will get a warm-up lap followed by three hot laps that are timed. Then you do another set after a short cool-off.
They will swap course workers and drivers, let them make their runs, and then you go to lunch. After lunch, you will do it all again. So, you will get 10-12 timed laps by the end of the day.
Greg,
Jerret did an excellent write up. All I can add is to declare you are a novice when you check in onsite with the registrar and ask for an instructor. The instructor can drive/ride with you in the parade laps. He can even ride with you for some or all your timed runs. Just ask...everyone wants you to have a good time and realize it's hard when you don't know what to do. You will be working a corner while the other run group runs...being declared a novice gets you an experienced corner co-worker.
BTW, course 1 is the fastest, but also the easiest...the middle section is the only tricky part IMHO. TT events are really just fast AX events where you get to run multiple laps without stopping. I'm in a red 95 with a hardtop. I'll be setting up the course early in the morning. Look for me and I'll help in any way I can. I'm terrible with names...so remind me when you see me. :-)

I dont have time to search all over, does anyone have a registration link?
clubregistration.net
Search for club: Maverick region PCA
So the Time Trials use the same course for every event?
This sounds like a freakin' blast! I'm going to have to see if I can finagle work...
Mitch - I understand your position, but I already volunteer my time with more than one club. No disrepect, but telling people that they need to volunteer in order to find-out their times (they weren't posted on-site either) is absurd. We paid an entry fee and did a work assignment; times should be posted.
I will not do extra work to find-out my times. This is a very dissapointing postition for a club as long-established as PCA to take.
Links to all three courses are here: http://mav.pca.org/Events/Autocross/...ingOverlay.htm
It is. I kicked myself for waiting so long to try it. I really do not know why more people do not go to these things.
I don't think Mitch is saying you should volunteer to find out... I think he is just saying to cut them some slack since they are and that they don't have somebody that can/will post times online at this point.
I honestly don't care if they post times. I imagine that the volunteers working also have the same stance hence the lack of posting. I like to know what my times are and I've always been able to find that out at the event.... Just have to go look at sheet.
Good point. That's cool, but I will not run any more PCA events, so everyone will be happy.
The PCA events are a lot of fun, and I appreciate them letting any car show up and the hard work that it takes to put them on. But I have to agree with OZMDD we are into June and we have no results posted for the year? I know that PCA breaks down the results in a lot of ways, but if we could just get the times without the break down that would make people happy. I will continue to do PCA events, but getting results posted in a timely manner would only help turn out. I do like to analyze my results run to run and my times compared to some of the fast drivers which is hard to do at the event or if it takes too long for the posted results because I no longer remember the event.
We are not trying to beat anyone up just letting people know where they can improve.
Just a PDF of the results posted here would make me happy. Really results posted in a timely manner does not seem like to much to ask.
I do times instead of working a corner!
Just FYI guys...maybe this will make it easier to understand. There is a retired Engineer named Charlie that used to handle all the times posting and drove that white "Truxster". He is in such poor health now that he has quit doing any of that stuff. It was Charlie that did all the statical analysis that you mentioned...because he loved doing that kind of crunching. No one else either wants to do it, has access to do it, or cares. The basic times are posted in the Porsche region newsletter. They are also having a BIG problem with finding someone to drive the Truxster to the events (can't drive your racer) and store the big thing. Charlie hadn't drive in an event in about a decade. But he liked the people and took care of it all. He could be very hard-headed about rules, but he is being severely missed.
Your suggestion about getting SOMETHING that could be uploaded to this site is a very good one. If someone with the admin of this site can confirm I can do that, then I'll request to be sent the data and see if they'll trust this Porsche member driving the wrong car with the data...and upload it if possible.
I'm sure there will be others running the events that won't benefit, but I am motivated to get Miatas out there...so I'll try.
Maniac Mitch.
For only $12.50 a year, any forum member can attach a document (jpg, pdf, etc) to a thread.
http://www.dfwmiata.com/payments.php?
is there not an common area for this kind of stuff??? That won't cost *ME* $12.50 a year to help everyone else out???
Maniac Mitch
PS....I requested just the X classes info because I feel they will free that up easier than the whole thing with all the Porsche member car info. So be sure to register in an X class...which is where you should land anyway. Sorry I don't know the SCCA equivalents... but AFAIK, Miatas fall in 2X, 3X, or 4X based on modifications. I was in 4X, and now will be in 3X...I think, I have a 95 with suspension mods. :-) Surely someone knows what each generation Miata gets in.
Host it on photobucket and link the URL of the image with image tags [img]*insert url here*[/img]
What kind of cars are allowed? My neighbor has a formula ford, is that ok?
thanks...I guess I'll worry about how to do it once I get the times. No word as of yet.
Maniac Mitch
I guess the Formula Ford could run...but not sure. Haven't seen anything like that in a lot of years. The only requirement I can remember was 4 wheels (no motorcycles), but I haven't seen any shifter carts either. I believe TXCoyote can run his SuperStalker, but it is licensed for the street. I see trailered full race cars running all the time...more like the Formula Ford. Seems it would be ok...but I haven't been on the rules committee in about 8 years.
I would suggest he get on the Mav website, and under contacts, find Travis and email him with that question...to be sure before coming out. It would be neat to see it run. :-)
If he tries it...please post the resulting answer...I'd like to know also now.
Maniac Mitch
I'd be surprised if it couldn't run. If it passes tech, it runs is the way I see it. The owner signs the waiver, no risk to the club. I ran my full race RX7 last time no problems.
