So did ya go to work today or stay home??
Drifted the Murano to the Dr and then back home. Watched an idiot in a 300 fly by me doing 45, then hit the brakes 100 feet before the stop light as if it was any old day. He slid clear through the intersection.
Left my house at 4:40AM. Drove from Wylie on watery roads all the way til Plano Parkway and Custer then drove on ice for 1+ miles to work. The parking lot at Central Market was a sheet of ice. I slid into my parking spot.
11 partners called in within 1 hour to say they weren't coming.
Where's the option for both? ::Banana::
Technically I have the day off so I am home. I am taking the CJ down to the shop to get some cage work done on it though.
Goddamn I thought I would get in trouble for not showing up, turns out to be not the case at all as my boss didn't even come in!
I wanna play at home!
(but it was fun sliding around when there were no other cars on the road)
I was off anyway because of MLK day.
I just had a two mile drive to the TRE station. Trinity was a little slick, but not too trecherous. Being 6:30 AM, there was not a lot of traffic yet, which makes things easier.
I have to go to work... and work with the nitwits that tell you to stay home... geez... :punchout:
Ugh... I know what the lead story is tonight. News at Nine...It's cold out there! You don't say!?
Drove the 28 miles to work with only one 360 getting on the access road to Bush from Custer
I went to work this morning. It took me about 45 minutes to get here (versus 15-20 minutes normally), but that was only because of all the idiots driving 11mph. :punchout:
I got here around 8am, and I was the only one in the department. Some of the others have trickled in since, but probably only half of our normal workforce.
I didn't have any trouble with the RX-8 on summer tires at all. Never even saw the traction control light up. Then again, today's commute was nothing compared to driving a rental minivan down a mountain pass in a blizzard, like I got to do over Christmas. ::Drive1::
Hahaha if I had a traction control light on the miata it'd be burnt out by now.
Who's doin' the cage work for ya?
The Spousal unit was touchy on the subject of the Spec's cage as that was going to dip into savings... but I got a CAP award over the weekend from work for some stuff I did with another team. That will pay for the other half of the cage. ::Banana::
Oh, and we're off work today for MLK. :D
RJ
Skeleton crew here today. I keep overhearing other people brag about how they managed to out-drive everyone else on the way in.
I've seen most of them drive. They probably caused a lot of crashes this morning.
Like Tim, I'm home for MLK.
I was going to mention that, but thought I might get banned after my last comment. :)
Whats the weather gonna be like this afternoon? Any sort of excuse I can pull to leave early?
The wife's school was starting at 10am, so I drove the Odyssey to take her in. We saw only 2 pickups and one Nissan Maxima on the 10 mile drive. The Maxima was in the ditch,:burnrubr: entangled with a pipe and cable fence.
The roads were not very bad, as long as you kept your speed down. We arrived at school at about 8:45am and were met by the head of maintenance, who told us that school had been called off while we were in route. We turned around and came back home, and saw only three pickups in the 10 miles back home.
MLK is a floating holiday for me. Since I worked in Granbury all weekend, I didn't want to do another day of it so I took Shelley to work, then came on in. That gives me a day off whenever I want it instead in the yucky weather. Been a very quiet day, so it was nice being here...........
Quiet is nice.. but not friggin silence. I feel like I'm stuck in an asylum!
I had to go in, lunch was dead. I had 4 tables, but still made a decent day out of it. I get to go back too! The roads were very slick today, but not much ice. I was really happy with the people doing 10mph up a hill. It would have been much easier to keep a steady speed than to go so slow you have to accelerate again to get over the hill. These "safe" drivers are the same ones that turn and brake at the same time...
FedEx is like the USPS. Rain, Ice, Snow, Nuclear Winter, we're open!
I'll be working tonight. :punchout:
I imagine we will be pretty light on freight though.
was an hour late for work , had to stop in the 200 car lot by my house for some cold water light ice fun =x
Two cups of coffee and four mountain dews aren't making this day go by any faster. I WANT HOME!
So did anyone else need a jump this morning or is my battery just teh gay?
I left for work at 5:25....during the last 5 minutes of the ice shower. I spun the tires all the way to work on a 13 mile long sheet of ice.
I just "worked" from home today, fortunetly I can telecomute when I need to or if I just feel like it. ::Banana::
I worked, the drive sucked, ice the whole 9 miles, drove my rental Ram 1500 crew cab, what a pig. How does Chrysler make a truck feel like an eggshell?
Holy Crap its cold out there. Nothing like 60 MPH in an open Jeep in 25 degree weather. He finished the Jeep about 6 and I got to drive it home.
I am glad that I took my wife's Millenia with traction control and ABS instead of my Miata. The bridges noth of downtown Dallas were so bad that they were blocked by the 18-wheels went sideway! It was just a little slick from Rowlett to downtwon. As soon as I hit 35 going north, everything stopped! I was 30 minutes late. There is no such thing as "ice day" for the hospital. People still get sick and die, good weather or not!
Drove the 40 miles to work and it only took 2 hours instead of the usual 1. George Bush was shut down at 183. 635 was a parking lot for the majority of the north loop. Once I was on 183 there was barely anyone on the road. Took 20 freaking minutes to clean off the windshield this morning on the beater though!
Maybe Bean could have the news add a segment on how to drive on slick roads & ice! I had to be at the hockey rink way out in Euless at 7am for MLK tournament. Took forever since everyone was driving 10-20mph like someone already mentioned. Roads didn't seem bad at all to me, just a little ice on the bridges. Hilarious watching everyone hit their brakes after they get on the ice covered bridge causing them to spin or the person behind to slide into them! Saw a couple spin-outs and fender benders driving the 30+ mile trip at a 6am. All they have to do is point the wheel straight and coast across!
Great talking with all the out of town hockey teams from Colorado, Detroit, Kansas etc. One guy said, "I thought we were all gonna die after watching the local news forcast last night!" Of course they're the same numnuts complaining it's too hot at 80* when they visit!
