Thread: Day trips and weekend trip suggestions..

Default Day trips and weekend trip suggestions..

Anybody have any good suggestions for destinations around 3-4 hours (or less) away for day trips? What's your favorite way to kill a day with perfect weather and a great car? Fun routes are the goal - not 2 hours down an interstate for a Kolache.

How about weekend trips; I'm wanting to hit Northeast Arkansas or the Hill country within the next 3 weeks as well... Suggestions for those are welcome too.

    Thanks.

Mapped 5 hrs from Richardson (289mi) but, I bet you can do it in less.

Nice place, we had a blast and may make a W/E run up for Turning of the Leaves.

From Maypearl, take FM 66 south to FM 308. This takes you to Waco the backway. Just to the west of Waco are many great FM roads that comprise the north end of the Hill Country. Which, has me wondering ....... Why am I not out of here .

+1 for Wilhelmina... there are some SPECTACULAR roads up that way, with lots of hills and beautiful views.

This one http://www.motorcycleroads.us/roads/tx_rr335.html along with RR336 and RR337 is the one I tried to get up a group ride to earlier this month. More than a day trip, more like a long weekend.

The 3's are good riding; but hardly a day trip from the DFW area. Its more of a weekend trip.

We've stayed here two times. Once in the fishin shack and once in the Scarlet Room. Really nice people and one heck of an old car collection. Queen Wilhelmina is a great road.

Also ABSOLUTELY gorgeous this time of year.

Hmm what is decent? Are we talking about your decent or my decent? I'm just curious because I don't want to offend anyone else's decent...

An Excellent choice. The lodge is usually booked a year in advanced during October.

    Default 3-4 hour drive

Big there is nothing that you can do in 3-4 hours ,your 2 hours to get out of town and then from there not knowing anything about the area your driving in could add another 2-3 hours
WE just got through taking a road trip and decided to make a detour off the beaten path and see whats down this road . It took us 37 miles out of the way and 2.5 hours of drive time .Going down one road the map looked like we should go one direction 15 miles latter we run into a dead end somones house was there
Had to turn around and take another road it turned into sand and black dirt
So it is going to be real hard to give you any drives that short
I think everyone else has given some good ones but they are more early early morning starts and late evening returns or a late night return
WE just get on a road and go and turn where we feel like it . We have throwed a blaket out on the ground and had rto sleep a while and get up and go again or get a room the wife gets us lost all the time

Try this one. FM 679 in Grayson County.

I have done that one several times. It's a nice relaxing drive and you should be able to get there and back in about 4 hours. There is also a coffee shop in Sherman a little bit out of the way called the Boiler room in an old steam laundry building. It's just west of the downtown area in Sherman.

Once you get to Whitewright don't quit there. Lots of fun farm roads between there and Pecan Gap, TX. Not real twisty but good surface and big sweepers through some pretty dairy country.

Yes, it is a good road, but they are working on it between hwy 75 to about halfway to 289.

If you go to Pilot Point and head north, you can eat at Clarks Outpost in Tioga.

Made a fun little rip on the farm roads east of Ferris and Ennis today. Beautiful weather and the car was ripping around like it had a mind of it's own. Took I45 south to the Ferris exit and went east on FM660. There is a Dukes of Hazzard jump you would not believe on this road, anything over 65 and you're getting air. This road comes out on Highway 34 so I went East to FM1181 and turned South for a big loop back to I45 in Ennis. I actually washed the car in Ennis just to take a break and went back around the other way. I think I'll be spending some more time in that neck of the woods and see what else I can find.
