Typically guys running stock class will upgrade the shocks, front sway bar, exhaust (from the cat back) and sometimes brake pads.

Run what you brung and go from there.

Ok, well then just going to leave it alone, well except for getting the rotors replaced and new pads and flushing and changing all the fluids.

Man 1.8 rotors are expensive. I think I only paid 11 or so for my 1.6 ones at Napa.

Ya I just looked at the prices from napa for my 01 and there are like 26 all the way around, but there is another type that is like 56 and I am looking over the differance between the two. The 26 dollar ones are napas premium rotors and the other ones are some other brand.

Yeah, Napa is probably the main parts vender I use at work. FWIW, Napa oil filters are made by Wix. Also, the Napa rotors are a good quality and I have them on my daily driver, the new 99 track car and on my SM. I know a few other guys that use them on their SM. Good rotor for good price, especially when for a track car that's going to tear them up anyways!

cool, then thanks for all this great info. Napa it is, I will most likely buy two pairs for front and for rear so I know I will always have a back up set on hand. Same with the pads. You guys did say there pads are a good choice as well. Oh and since this is a stock setup I have, I am needing to get the pads and rotors for the non sport suspension correct?

I don't think there was an '01 Sport. OEM pads are hard to beat unless you plan on doing a lot of track days. Get 1 set of rotors/pads ...they will last much longer than you think.

Ok, just thought I would ask cause it was offering them for w/ or w/o sports suspension for my year. Cool that makes it easier to choose then.

Ok so one set of each and you think I will be fine. I do plan on attending as many autocross events that I can next season.

I am really amped up for this and I know I will have a blast. I have even told my room-mate and her boyfriend to be ready cause there might be a couple of weekends that end up being two day events. Ok call me crazy but I just know what type of things I will really enjoy and this is going to be one of them with no doubts.

As I'm sure you know starting in 2001 there were 2 different size rotors available on the Miata. Most parts counter monkeys are not aware of the difference.

Cars with 15" rims had 10.0" front rotors and 9.9" rear rotors
Cars with 16" rims had 10.6" front rotors and 10.9" rear rotors

Make sure they get you the correct parts.

I will just have to call them when it comes time. It is looking like the fronts that I have to have are going to be around 54 and the rears may be around the same, but they don't show any rears that will match for my car online do to lack of them putting the details on line for all there rotors. At least now I will know what I am needing and won't be getting the wrong ones.

    Glad I could help!

I found out about the different rotor sizes on the wife's '02 so I had been there and done that.

    More stuff on your 2001 - http://www.miata.net/faq/brochures/2001/index.html

Ok, here is what I will slowly be getting for next years autocross events. Yes I know you may think, it is your first year you don't need those, but I am also considering what will be worth having for Drag Racing at Kennedale as well. If you think there might be anything I should get that I don't list for the autocross please let me know.

At the top of my list are new rotors and brake pads all the way around.

Second on the list. AS2005 Helmet
    http://www.jegs.com/i/G-FORCE/471/3005LRGMB/10002/-1

    Third will be driving shoes.
    http://www.jegs.com/i/Simpson/856/28105BK/10002/-1

    Fourth will be driving gloves
    http://www.jegs.com/i/Simpson/856/20400LK/10002/-1

Ok I will also be looking to get two toys

My first toy I feel will be a must have to I can evaluate how I did and where I can improve. This is the least costly one and I will some day upgrade but this will work great for now.
    http://www.datatoys.com/products/Spe...duct_info.html

Now for my second toy. Well I will be getting the Ipod touch and installing the software that will give me data to see how well I do on each lap I take so I can compare how I improved or even see if I did worse.

Well that is it so far as I said if you think there is anything I should get for my first year and I haven't mentioned it on here please let me know.

Come out and look at the video setups the other guys are running before you drop $600. Any little digital camera that shoots VGA movies will work (most) and it's pretty simple to rig a homemade mount for it. Because the course is so short (30 to 90 seconds usually) there is no need for a video camera, unless you just want one.

Well I am looking at getting one so I can evaluate my runs once I get home and see where I can improve and what I need to work on. Plust made a few videos for my own personal collection to send to my mom and other family members that I think will enjoy watching it. As I said it is one of the toys that I am looking at really for personal want I know it isn't needed. I liked that one cause it came with the mounts, and mic, the video recorder, you know everything I don't already have which is well everything. LOL Plus I can use the camera for other stuff on the side so I will get more uses out of it then just the races.

Or do you think that one is too much for what is being offered?

Look at the attachment I just posted up, sorry it took so long. Small digital camera = $100, Homemade mount = < $20, the back of your head being a movie star = priceless. Thanks to Cone cerned for the picture, that's his mount.

Dude, maybe you need to refill your medication before you buy all this sh!t for a sport you haven't actually participated in yet.

Buy a helmet. Skip the shoes and the gloves and the suit and the HANS device for now. There will be plenty of time for that later.

If you want a good, inexpensive camera for motorsports, go here. Don't waste your money on some $600 system.
