The Tarrant County Health Dept just forced Mayfest to be cancelled this weekend. You'd think the black plague had arrived.

Our leaders continue to fan the hysteria. If my daughter's graduation is cancelled next weekend I will be more than just disgruntled and there's no oinkment that will help that.

    Fixed it for you.

Meh. They are damned if they do nothing as well.

I have no fears of this being the next black plague, but it's not a bad idea to nip this in the bud if possible. And most of these actions are relatively cheap (not including lost tax revenue, which would be greater if people died).

I just learned from work that most of the Hospitals in the area have already gone to Code Yellow (= internal disaster!). The hospitals are buying thousands of courses of Tamiflu. The bad part is that most of them will not arrive in Dallas until next week. The leaders are hedging their bets by closing schools and canceling events, while trying to keep everyone from panicking. For those in the extremes of age and those have serious/chronic illness (cancer, lung diseases etc.) this is deadly!

Don't think of pandemic disaster to involve instantaneous Ebola-like death. Think of it as a serious strain on healthcare facilities, causing a systemic failure of society.

This is just a taste of what could come. Imagine if 1/10th of the population were ill at the same time. Suddenly, we have a national / global melt-down and no way to treat everyone. This of course stems upon the assumption that H1N1 doesn't mutate into a more severe virus. Imagine if the virus "strengthens" and replicates itself more frequently in the body...then things start getting ugly fast.

The media frenzy is unavoidable, but I think our leaders are handling this properly so far.

Disease is Mother Natures way of thinning the herd when nothing else works.

Eventually a truely nasty version of one of these will hit the general populace and no amount of government intervention will stop it.

Perhaps, this will fix the economy too! Less people to fight for the positions! I know this is the sick way of fixing the mess! I hope everyone and your family on this board stay healthy!

You know, you can get 10 capsules of Tamiflu for $350. That was this morning. It may have gone up already!

It's reached Collin County.... 1 confirmed case and 2 probables identified today. Wilson Middle School in Plano is now closed TFN. No word on other schools in the county.
