I told the guy that built it to use some big ass wood as I was going to be in the house for a long time and wanted something that would hold up. He listened well.....

I will be building something similar for the kids' house in college station as soon as I get the concrete poured.

I've been wanting to build something similar for a flagstone deck that overlooks the pool. How are the posts mounted on the porch?

Post mounts were used. The mount is bolted to concrete using a masonry anchor or screws. The wood post is inserted into boot, plumbed, and attached with 4 screws on each side. The bottoms were trimmed out.

What size are those? 10x10? 12x12?

    8 x 8 columns, 4 x 10 headers, 4 x 6 beams, 1 x 6 tongue in groove cedar ceiling, 1/2 plywood, 30 pound tar paper, 30 year shingles

The arbor has 2 x 2's as the cross members spaced 2 inches apart.
