Thread: Profanity in posts

    Default Profanity in posts

Is it just me or has there been a lot of profanity on MME posts, lately? My mouth is as bad as the next guy's, but I thought we were supposed to keep it somewhat clean here.

I try to spot them and fix them when I can. I've always warned posters to watch it since some people read this at work!

If it isn't safe for work, put NSFW in the title instead of profanity in the title. If I hit unread posts and #@%***!~##@$%^ is in the title and someone looks over my shoulder at work, I'm in trouble.

this is why my montior is turned so no body can look over my shoulder.....just in case (stupid cube farms).

And this site is nothing compared to another I'm on, have to have avatars, sig lines, etc all turned off there.

The thing that I never understood, while working as an IT guy and not, is why people are concerned with profanity on sites that their work doesn't block anyway. Porn or illegal sites, sure, be concerned someone might see it. But those are usually blocked anyway. Seems like the people worried someone might see a bad word on their monitor are using that as an excuse to be worried that they are really just wasting company time to begin with.

Could also be because they may not want that site blocked, or the perception it may cause them harm or cause them to be viewed negatively if they were viewing sites with profantiy.

just a couple of random thoughts.

What I never understood is why people feel that they can't express themselves without using profanity.

Oh I do, don't get me wrong. I'd be surprised if I typed out a swear word here.

I was just saying that I don't see why it's such a huge deal, especially since I've been employed previously to specifically block sites, and not once did I have to do so because of profanity. I just know from personal experience that the majority of people worried about a particular site really should have been worried that they were online to begin with.

I've noticed it too. It doesn't really bother me, but then I'm usually alone at home when I'm on this site..
