    I'm here for the fluffers.

I'll swing by to watch after tuning a buddy's car in Granburry, I have to buy a damn transponder and compromise seat time in return. Any chance I can get my car on scales at that track? I called PST and they said it would cost $100 just to put the car on the scales do to the extensive set-up required to weigh the car, hahahaha.

See if they will weigh it for free if you buy a transponder.

Well, in defense of PST, they do have some coin tied up in their scales... $1000-3000 worth of equipment.

I also suspect they don't just want anyone coming by for a free weighing. It might take 30-60 minutes of work just to weigh one car. Really. And I suspect that's about the hourly rate for work done in their shop, right?

To weigh a car correctly, first you have to clear a spot on the levelest part of the shop floor - that might involved moving one, two or more cars at PST. Then they have to get the (heavy) scales out, get the ramps and bridges out, put all the wires and read head together, make sure its charged, re-arrange the scales and ramps/bridges for your car's track width and wheelbase, level then zero the scales, then roll your car on to get the weights. And when you've done that much work, its usually worth it to get the cross weights with the driver and an empty weight without, check it with a proper fuel load, and hell... and then its not much work beyond that to do a full corner balance.

A corner balance job goes for $200-300 at most race shops. That's what I'd charge to do them... if we wanted that work (which we don't).

I have scales at our shop and fully admit that we don't use them often enough. Its just a real pain to go through all of those steps, but when we make major changes to any car we're building we do it. I've even dragged our scales to car dealers and weighed a half dozen or more cars at a time, to put together a database of model weight variations for new cars we're looking to buy. That can burn an entire day, for no monetary gain, and you're lucky if you can find a dealer that's cool enough to let you even do this (Don Herring Jr rocks - he's let us do this for both the EVO 9 models and the EVO X models). Total pain in the ass.

    Good times...

Looks like Saturday is going to be a wet one. Push the tune till Sunday? Or just come on out. I have the hardtop w/ Lexan installed and door windows go in a matter of seconds.
I use to worry about money; but then realized I don't HAVE anything to worry about.

I'm only trying to get total weight, not balanced, for NASA classing. PTP is the only shop in town not smoking crack on corner-balance / alignment, but at this point my car is good enough that I'm not going to spend the money. It's not $100 worth of work to move the ramps...then again I'm the one calling for scales. I have to wait and do it at MSR-H in a few weeks and hope my classing goes where I expect it...with the vinyl lettering to match.

For the record, PST wanted $800 to balance and align my car if I remember correctly, which was not the most. That record went to RAC whatever who tought $1200 was fair because they though Miatas were "difficult to balance because they are so small."

Try MER? I think they were like 300-350 for align/corner/height IIRC from last year..Close to Electro too.

Or PTP? Forrest has good prices and does good work.

I just want the god damned car put on a scale so I can send my classification request to NASA!!! lol Every place I call says "Oh well, we really need to balance it [insert a bunch of questions you never asked, with answers you already knew]" When I tell them the car is fine and doesn't need to be adjusted they tell me, "Oh, well you don't know what you are missing."

My best option is to drive to the OK border to put in on a Cat scale at a truck stop at this point.

You can always go to the land fill in Denton with some trash, they weigh you going in and coming out. Charge is based on how much weight you throw in the dump.

I tried that on Monday, the didn't care for my lack of a Denton address considering I live in Lewisville. So I went to the dump in Lewisville, I thought the were going to call security on me, lol. I can't believe this has turned into such an ordeal. It looks like I'll weigh at the first race in 3-weeks.

Places that sell decorative rocks and gravel for landscaping and driveways have scales. Might be worth a try.

Wow, this has turned into a challenge. I'm still floored with the $800-1200 numbers you were quoted. Damn!

Sounds like you need to set-up a "dyno day" like event, but instead just to scale cars.

Haven't done this in years, but we brought our scales to some DFW autocrosses in the past. I think we charged $10 for a 4 corner weigh & track alignment (toe and camber) check. Once you have the scales all out, wired up, and the ramps/bridges set-up its pretty easy to weigh a bunch of cars quickly.

/\ +1 That's how I got mine weighed last season. Stuck it in line with all the spec guys who weighed in after qualifying. Goes pretty quick with a lot of cars. Definately a pain if just for one car if it is not a permanent setup.
Party at Terry's shop! Bring Paul and AJ and we'll bring the refreshments. :)

I got my car weighed a while back at Chalmers Construction over here in Garland. I think they charged me $10. They're at the corner of North Garland and Arapaho.

I got it weighed yesterday and it's too light, 2440 w/driver, trailer hitch, ad 1/3rd tank. It's cool that the car is 2225lb, but bad in regards to TT classing.

So dial it down to 217hp or gain some car weight. My car would be about 2450 with half a tank and limit me to 234hp; almost 70hp over what it is.
