Thread: Next BMW AX?

  1. #1

    Default Next BMW AX?

Who would be interested in started at 8:00Am driver's meeting, 8:30 first car out?
    30 minute lunch
    Why or why not?

It would be hard to have the course ready to walk at 7 AM.

Depends on where it was. Mineral Wells is too far for me to get there that early. TMS is ok for an early start

Next event is at TMS. I'm in, and definitely think the early start/short break is a good idea. We would've beat the worst of the heat yesterday if we'd been on that schedule.

Setting up the course early will be a challenge, but not too tough with a couple extra people on the setup crew. Using a variation of the Divisional course that allows the painted-boxes to serve as reference points is a great idea too.

I'm with JJ, I think it would be axeing too much of the setup crew to have the course ready that early. Yesterday's event was fantastic, we would have been done earlier if not for the disabled car (not to scold, hope the owner doesn't have too many problems getting it resolved). Is it really that cooler at 3:30 vs. 4:30?Let me go on record by saying that if the club ever nixes the lunch 'n' glorious a/c break, I will use my military connections to aim an ICBM squarely at the roof of the timing and scoring van, wherever it may be. At the launch controls will be stationed a drunken 19 year old Army private with his trembling trigger finger hovering just millimeters above the launch button. Millimeters....

Any chance you guys could forego the multiple "holds the starts" and total stoppage of the event due to computer issues?

I bet that would help speed things along as well!

Yep. Need to have a core group who know how to use the system.

I think we just found a new volunteer to run the computer

Better to hold the start for 2-3 min if necessary then having to give a ton of re-runs that give competitors an unfair advantage and even more looks at the course.

The problem with the computer was just drivers switching cars so when entering the number the wrong class would populate the cell and the guy working the computer just did not always catch it between trying to listen to wind buffeted cone calls.

2-3 minutes would have been great! During the last heat it was considerably longer than 2-3 minutes we were told the computer locked up and we waited.....

Plus all those 2-3 minute delays add up as the day goes on and when your corner working in 100+ weather you tend to note the delays.

I agree with ken o's post about BMW setting up a core group that knows the system.

Yeah, I do agree the core group idea is good. I know Gernby has been doing it for past few NTAXS events and seems to be picking it up pretty well, but he is not always at BMW ones.

The software/windows did crash, not operator error. It happened at MW with experienced BMW board members working timing too. Crap happens

I've grown to expect these delays with many of the clubs I run.

My point if the software is crashing regularly maybe it is time to fix it. It crashed at Mineral Wells and it crashed this weekend. Isn't this a sign there may be an issue??

I know IT Professionals historically tend to shy away from fixing issues to ensure job security but this is autocross!

Hey, it's Axware, what can you expect. Just saying it was a hardware/software issue that caused the complete lock up not operator error.

The delays seem normal to me. As for guys switching cars..... Don't allow it.

I would love the earlier start. I left at noon because I did not want to work 3 to 4:30 in the heat. Yea, I know, I'm old. I suggest the use of a summer course that does not change much. No need to plan or even walk the damn thing.
