R12 AC valves

The e30 has a very slow freon leak. I think it is leaking via the schrader valves. I placed a small amount of oil inside each valve and replace the caps. After a couple of weeks the oil is foamy and has bubbles. I saw a tool to replace the valves without losing the charge. Does anyone have it or know where I can borrow one.

How quickly is it leaking out? Have you tried replacing just the cap? I would get a cap and another valve from the junkyard. Then you can see what kind of seal the valve uses.

I would personally recommend putting some dye in the system so you can properly see where it's leaking from. I have the special light tool and glasses.

my schreader valve leaks too... the cap hisses when removed.... good thing i don't use it...I hate A/C!

It seems to leak faster when it was fully charged. As the pressure has dropped the leak has slowed. About every minute there will be a bubble or two in the oil I placed in the valve area.

Cool tool didn't know anything like this existed!

Looks like you need one for the high side and a different one for the low side.

Thanks. That looks like the R134 tool. I found a kit with adapters for 134 and for 12 but it was $220. Found a shop that said they might be able to replace them and charge the system for $150.

Embarrassingly, no. But great suggestion. I will give it a try.

Update:
I was able to turn the low side one full revolution and the high side 3/4. How tight should I make them?

If they moved, then they were loose. That should fix the problem of sealing around the valves. Unless the problem is with the valve mechanism itself... then you will have to replace. Keep an eye on them, see if they still leak.
