Good old California is at it again!
LINKSAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - California filed a global warming lawsuit on Wednesday against Ford Motor Co., General Motors Corp., Toyota Motor Corp., and three other automakers, charging that greenhouse gases from their vehicles have cost the state millions of dollars.
The other three automakers are: Daimler/Chrysler, Honda, and Nissan

If I were a Kalifornia taxpayer, I'd be pissed that my tax money was being wasted on this instead of going to infrastructure or education.

Public nuisance, huh? Well, if that's the way California feels, maybe all the automakers should pull their dealerships out of the state and void the warranty of any new car that is bought out of the state and then registered in CA. (pipe dream, but fun to think about). I'm sure the populace would be thrilled with that. Or maybe Calif. should just make autos illegal outright, what with being a nuisance and all. I'm sure the state's subjects wouldn't mind. It's not like they have any real money invested in autos out there...Lockyer, a Democrat, said the complaint states that under federal and state common law the automakers have created a public nuisance by producing "millions of vehicles that collectively emit massive quantities of carbon dioxide."![]()
What's next? Lawsuits against the gas companies for the same reason? Can't have emissions without burning gas.
And since I'm already in rant mode... What happens when the 9th Circuit Court sides with the state? How many other states will follow suit, trying to fill their coffers? What do you suppose that will do to the price of cars, which are already so high it makes my head hurt to think about replacing any one of mine? So we all, as consumers, end up paying more that just goes right into government pockets! Woo Hoo!! Love me the system!!

Dammit!! Now I really need that cookie!!
Run for office?!? I'd be done after the first debate. Can you just imagine it... >fuzzy fade to town hall meeting<
Moderator: Thank you Senator X. Now, Monkey of Death, your rebuttal."
Monkey of Death: Thanks. First off, I'd like to compliment Senator X on an answer that was vague, uninformed, filled with buzz words and totally avoided the question at hand. Furthermore, I'm amazed that someone can act so passionate about an issue on which they are terminally ill-informed to the point of not even being sure of the proper pronunciation of the simplest elements of which the issue is comprised. Your answer was short-sighted, inflammatory, neglected the core issues and shamelessly pandered to the lowest common denominator of the population while trying to disguise yourself as some heroic flag waver. You, Mr. Senator, are a tool.
Yeah, I don't really see much of a political future for myself...![]()
Not sure if anyone saw this movie, but in the 90s CA put forth it's first emissions law which in turn spurred the creation of the electric car, which was fabulous, but it was killed off by a combination of govt, big oil, and car companies. CA air board caved after being sued and retracted the emissions law.
