Looks like it will be a little cold on Sunday, but we can use the space heater I purchased for when Miatamoto and I swapped cruise control parts. It worked really well. It was 30 something outside and I was in short sleeves in my garage.

If the garage is closed, then knock on the garage door and I will come around to the front door and let you in.

Since we will be starting at 11, I expect we'll get hungry about an hour after starting. I think we'll just order a pizza or two.

I will also have put papers down for POS.

    Looking forward to it.

You will have to see the spring comressor in question to understand why I felt it is safe to use an impact on it. It is designed to compress 6 inch lift springs for 4x4 vehicles. the 3 inches that I had to compess the miata springs barely put a load on it.

Alrighty then! We have a day to sort out details. HudsonHawk, will you be able to bring the compressor? If not I can try to pick one up at Autozone.

I'm gathering all my stuff up (somebody took all my parts from inside the house and unceremoniously dumped them in the garage) from all over the place. I've located everything we'll need, so here's a list:

    1. KYB AGX 8-way shocks

    2. Ebay coilovers

    3. FCM bumpstops

    4. HDHB roll bar w/ hardware

    5. Anything quick and simple I can find. Oh heck I may as well bring my new spark plugs, I never got a chance to put them in

FYI...putting a rollbar in properly (without hacking the interior) is a project in itself. I'd save it for another day unless your helpers are up for it. You'll also need the long drill bit, tin snips, a dremel and and some spray undercoating.

It's just the Hard Bar single hoop, no diagonals or anything. Shouldn't be too bad

BTW can we get a head count of who's coming? And Bean, if you can make it bring the test pipe. I'll bring money

That doesn't change how it mounts to/in the car. We've installed several bars and it takes time to do it right.

+1 on that - all of the 4-point Hard Dog rollbars mount up in about the same way, and I would set aside a minimum of eight hours to install one properly. You can do it in less time with a lot of help and someone who has done it before, but it isn't a job you want to rush.

EDit: - I see you've only got the 2-point Hard bar. That one shouldn't take as long, but I've never done one of those before, so I couldn't tell you what all is involved.

Actually, it does. The Hardbar is a 4 point attachment rather than 6 like most other hardog bars (it has no rear supports). Reading the instructions HERE, it sounds like there is no drilling involved. Remove the interior trim and seatbelt retractors, bolt the bar in, trim and and reinstall the interior. Still not a trivial install, but easier than a 6 point bar.

BTW, you got a killer deal on that heater. I went to look for one after we used it the other week and could find anything close to it.

I stand corrected. I guess the most time consuming task would be trimming the interior panels (that's usually the case on a 6-point too).

The panels don't have to be perfect as I'm getting another set from Black Roadster later on for when I convert the interior to black. We can take our time on the black set... the tan ones right now aren't a huge deal. Thanks for the concerns though

Just remember this is the first major work I've done on my car, so I'm a little inexperienced

No I can not bring the spring compressor. I was not able to get by and pick it up yesterday. I do not have to work tonight so I will be there tomorrow.

Eek, I guess I'll try to get one at Autozone tomorrow then. I was told it's the one that is used for struts, correct?

The one they have for shock springs (which I almost got) goes through the center of the spring. On the Miata, there's a shock in the center of the spring, much like a strut. So you need to get the kind that places a compressor (2) on each side of the outside of the spring. This was labeled as the Strut Spring Compressor on the little chart of loaner tools.

Tell this to them and they can point you in the right direction.
