Default Monday night meet 9:00pm 'ish Addison

Hey, if anyone is interested the Ricekiller.com or whatever the hell it is car meet is tonight at Humperdinks in Addison. The turn out is usually pretty large and some really nice cars. I'm going with tonight with a few friends. One is driving a white/blue stripe Ford GT and another is driving a Lotis Exige. The Testarossa guy canceled. We are planning on arriving around 9:00pm.

If anyone decides to head up there I'll probably be with the parental unit tonight in the blue Solstice instead of my "infamous white Miata."

Next week, I'm up for it! Let's get a miata group together to go. I've checked out their forum, the past GTG's have been successful. I'm gonna plan for it!

I might be interested but I prefer the smaller Wednesday night GTGs. I've heard some bad things about the RiceKillers event. Tefts, Gangs, etc... ::

We don't have to stay long, but I'd bet we'd see some cool cars. Seems they've had a few isolated events in the past after people leave, but they say the cops are in place. ???? Magma went once and made it out alive.

"The End of Monday Night in Addison: FULL DETAILS

Well, you might have heard bits and pieces, you might have seen some parts, you might think that you know what the real deal is. Well, just to get everyone on the same page, here is what happened, and a little more into what’s going on.

First I want to stress that it is way to early in the game to speculate on several things. So lets take things slowly and handle them professionally to make sure that everyone is ok in the end, are you with me?

It started tonight, at the 7-24-06 Meet in Addison. The meet was starting off strongly, with more cars at 9pm than I had ever seen. In fact, less that 15 minutes after the meet had officially started, I counted more than 200 cars. This is the most in that little time. Ultimately, it was this number that led to the later events of the evening.

While I was setting up the sound system, getting everyone settled in and juggling selling shirts and stickers, someone came up to me. They said that the police wanted to speak with me. No problem, we have been there for months now, and the police had been out each week, speaking with me several times. I was under the understanding that we were in very good relations with the police, as there had never been any major problems.

I got up to the officer and asked him what the problem was. We’ll, being so big so fast was the problem. Before Babies R Us has shut down (9pm), the attendees of the meet had parked in every single available spot. Even the handicap spots and “expecting mothers” spot. Customers who parked in a desolated lot, came out with diapers in hand to see hundreds of sports cars, trucks, bikes, and well, noise. What’s worse, all of the parking had been taken up, so people rolling in to get some baby supplies at 8:45 had to park hundreds of yards away, and when they got inside, of course they complained. The GM of Babies R Us called the Addison PD, who sent several officers who had never, ever seen the meet before. Not after all these months. These officers had not even spoken to the ones that normally come out. These officers were prepared for battle.

So, this officer asks me what’s going on, what we are doing, how long we have been doing it, etc. I tell him everything, and he gently explains to me that we took up the spots and we shouldn’t do that until after 9pm. I agreed and apologized, and let him know that it would be handled. He went on to tell me that we did not have a “Addison Special Events Permit” and that technically, we were breaking the law by congregating in such large numbers without the permission of the city. So, apparently Humperdinks permission was void, because we were in multiple parking lots. But the officer was kind, and understood that this was the first time that I had ever heard of this law. I told him that I would work to get a permit as soon as Tuesday, and apologized again.

I went back down to the DJ BOOTH, and made an announcement that we were still ok, but needed to be extra careful tonight as the police had warned me, etc. Well, about that time another officer walks down, and tells me to “come with him”.

Well, I walk back up with him, and this time he takes my license. I can now see that there is some 8 cop cruisers, and 10+ uniformed officers. He tells me that “the sergeant wants to talk to me.” Ok, no problem. I get up to him, and he says very sternly and sounding annoyed, “do you have a permit to be here with the city?” No, I replied. “Well then your getting a $2000 ticket!”. I was like, uhhhhhh…. He asked me, “Who gave you permission to be here?” I said, Humperdinks. He said “Well then they are getting a $2000 ticket too!” The acting manager of Humperdinks came out and attempted to talk with the sarge, but he would not hear it, and wrote both me, and the manager a $2000 ticket for “Holding a special event without proper permit from the city”. The officer then told me that “everyone had to leave now, or he would write everyone a ticket, and tow any car that was still in the parking lot after 10 minutes”. I asked him if we could please finish out tonight and I would handle this with the city and online when I got home, and he said no. He also said he would not give me back my drivers license until I made everyone go.

So I go back down the the DJ booth, and make a speech. I had about 250 people around or so. I told everyone what happened, and that of course I will work on a new meet, or fixing the current one. I praised everyone for helping me to make the biggest and best gtg in the metroplex, and pledged to continue to provide that service for the automotive community. Then I asked everyone to leave, and they did.

We picked up the parking lot as we did every night, but this time we did it much earlier. The officer was quick to tell me that “This parking lot is a disaster area, it looks worse than South Dallas. Well, not in my town!”. I guess he thought we LEAVE it like that each night? Uh, no, we pick it up every week, in fact we pick up more than we leave.

So, what is the deal right now.

Right now, I have a ticket, that COULD be fined UP TO $2000. I have 10 days to contact the court, then more time for a court date, and more time for a trial by jury, etc. Of course, I plan to fight this ticket and get it dropped. I think I will be able to quite easily considering all things involved, but if I cannot, we will simply have a benefit concert, donation drive, or carwash or something. I’m not worried about the $2000. We have enough well off patrons of RKC and sponsors to cover that easily if the need comes. Obviously, you all expect me to exhaust every option before asking for money, and I will. That time could be months away… so lets not worry about that yet!

Our first and foremost mission is.
    1. Acquire the Special Event Permit from the city of Addison.
    2. If this is not possible, locate another place for a new Monday Night Meet.

All other things are in the air at this time, and we will talk about them as they come up.

I will attempt to acquire the permit as soon as tomorrow, and if I cant, then we will all pull together and find a new place to meet. We have a lot of steam going, and we don’t need to let the train stop here! We have moved 4 times already, so we are good at this! If you know of any business that might be up to the task, please pass them my contact information. I’m sure any business would love to have the money of 600 people in the pockets. That is what they will get in exchange for safe parking, and a discount on their food.

Also, if any of you know any good lawyers, please feel free to pass them this information. At this point, I don’t know if a lawyer is needed, but if one reads this and sees a case, the please bring this to my attention.

So, in conclusions Rickillers, don’t worry! The ticket will be paid for if need be, the meet will be replaced, the permits will be bought or acquired. RKC will continue to strive to live up to the “Best Automotive Meet in DFW”. We could not do it without you, and I hope you guys support me in all of this. I do it for you. I do it for us.

Thanks to everyone for everything. More details as they come."

lol You took a pic of a racing buddy's "Pimp-mobile" but not my friend's Ford GT?!?! We parked way off to the side of Babies R Us. We all headed home after the police made everyone scram. The meet was actually kinda disappointing. Sure it was the largest amount of people they've ever had show up, but most of the cars sucked. Only a few Vettes with nothing special, a few S2000's ooops I mean new Vipers again nothing special. None of the twin-turbo vettes/vipers showed up, another friend with the red Ford GT couldn't make it, the crazy riced to hell Skylines didn't show up....just a ton of rice and high school kids and rap stereos. More like RiceMaker instead of RiceKiller!

Apparently they have a small group started GTG's at the Roadhouse in McKinney on Thurs. nights now. We could all invade blackroadsters house and wake up Katy. (I mean talk quietly outside)

No waking the baby! Katie needs her sleep so she isn't crabby. (I peench!)

I work evenings but I'm usually available after 9:30pm. I still vote for the smaller GTGs with people I know. That's why I like the Wednesday night gigs.

Yeah the big events have a bigger opportunity for ignorance. The smaller groups have an opportunity for fudge pops.

That doesn't bother me so much... it's the one's that get away and go running red lights that do. Especially at the hour that I'm coming home from work at...

Not really, the nitwits and idiots just don't limit themselves to Preston.

That's funny. I did have "(and adjoining streets)" in my post before I put it up but, then I took it out fearing I misspelled "adjoining".
