Thread: Off-season mods

    Default Off-season mods

Brown Santa came today with a box from Mazda Motorsports. This will give me plenty to do during my Holiday vacation. I plan to…

    - Install new front bushings
    - Replace timing belt, tensioner spring, and associated seals
    - Replace water pump
    - Replace ignition coil
    - Replace oxygen sensor (causing CEL)
    - Replace cat-back exhaust
    - Plus, I have several other chores, like adjusting my top latches and window seals.

    What are you doing?

Rear main is leaking (was when I bought the car), so I'll be replacing that and throwing in a fresh clutch while it's apart.

Fresh brake pads and maybe rotors depending on their condition.

I'm really starting to like the looks of the Deuce Hard Dog roll bar, but I must resist!

Get the RX-8 Sold. If so, put a rollbar in the Miata.

Replace the Civic's suspension with some Konis and GC and some fresh brake pads. Maybe replace all the bushings with ES.

Figure out which car I'm going to autocross next year... Practicality says come "play" in ST2 since the Miata has bad shocks in the front and severely sagged FM springs in the rear, so it's time for coilovers.

Replace the OEM cat and rework the exhaust from the OEM manifold back.

Install Recaro seat in the car.

I tried to get a matching one for daddy, but She Who Must Be Obeyed said no.

Don't we hear this every year about this time?

BTW, you're showing how long you've been gone. There is no ST2, and your Miata isn't eligible for STS. So it's STR for the Miata or STX for the RX-8.

    Come play in STX!

ST2/STR whatever, you know what I meant... And, yes... STX is the other option floating about out there... Or C Stock, I suppose if I felt like changing tires.

Maybe some Sector 111 front control arms so I can get more than -.6 camber. Either that or sell the car and buy something else.

Well, duh... I certainly wouldn't want to return the Miata to stock... Oddly, I *do* have an RX-8 in stock trim, though...

New front wheel bearings. One is really starting to make noise.
Maybe an exhaust. Stupid STU rules will not allow me to do headers with the 6" rule on cats. I am really close to saying F*** SCCA and running BMW, NTAXS, PCA, NASA TT. Headers and race cats give me 30HP more at the wheels and keep me in the same NASA TT class.

What is the rule on cats in SM?
    M3 is always the answer.

    Let's see?
    Coilovers
    Brake pads
    At least one racing seat
    Clutch work
One more set of wheels? Maybe.

--probably helping with some of the above
--new front and rear bushings for 93
    --new clutch
    --install passenger racing seat
--looking at header options, liked the one DavidSS showed me at the last TT
--hmmmm find new trunk lid and play with a wing?
I learned this the hard way.....

Take all of your valuables out of your car at night. This includes taking the mounting hardware off of your windshield or dash and hiding the power supplies. I lost over $ 1,000 to a thief with no hope of recovering my items and to top if off they smashed my window in the rain and my truck got soaked. Let my loss be your learning experience.

I really liked how the header, intake, and crank pulley changed my car. After the coilovers and wheels, look into these. I just went with a cheapo Raceland header from eBay, for now.
