If you're going to ride with a fellow competitor (in your class or not), you need it ok'd with everyone in your class........the thought being that you are getting an extra look at the course, at speed, that your competitors are not.
At a local event? At a Tour or Divisional I get it, but local? Really?

Got this e-mail thought I'd share!

Event #1 is only 2 days away!

In case you haven't been keeping up on the forum (www.texassolo.org) or have missed the new Solo Times newsletter, there are a few things that are slightly different this year when you check in for the event. We will be checking your drivers license and SCCA membership card at the registration table. You must have both of them with you. If you've recently joined SCCA and don't have your card yet please bring whatever documentation you have that can identify you as a member.

If you don't have your drivers license we're going to make you run the course on a tricycle. In reverse. : )

Hey I've never been to one of these before. Can I just show up and watch or is there a fee? What time is it?

We (SCCA) don't care how many times you ride with someone. Your competitors may if they think it's being done to gain an advantage.

The discussion Rotgirl is referring to was around revising our supplemental rules. As they were written there was no provision for a competitor to do anything about someone taking advantage of the ride along policy. All we did was amend the supps to actually say what the intent of the rule was all along. Somewhere throughout the years the wording was altered and technically the rule was obsolete. We simply fixed it. I can assure everyone that the spirit and purpose of the rule hasn't changed at all.

For the ADD among us (me included), I'll summarize the part in question: Any driver can ride along with anyone else once their competitive runs are complete. No problems any which way you slice it. If you want to ride with someone before your competitive runs are complete you could be protested by your fellow competitors. This is the part where Rotgirl was referring to getting permission from folks in your class. If they don't care, we don't care. You guys all know each other pretty well so I'm sure you already know how your competitors would feel about something like this. The rule has always been this way since I've been involved, but somehow the wording didn't reflect it.

The supps are now posted at http://www.texassolo.org. I encourage everyone to read through them. These are the rules that TX Region uses to supplement the National Solo Rules that we all play by. As an example, there is no Novice, Street Tire or W class at the National level. Those are all handled via the supps.

The $40 includes your weekend membership. With a regular membership the entry fee is $25.

If you paid the $40 already you can apply the $15 from the weekend membership to your regular membership.

We'll have weekend memberships available at registration, so don't sweat it if you didn't get your regular membership set up yet. If you just registered this week you should've received your regular membership number already (when you signed up online). Bring a printout of that number along with you and we'll honor the member price at registration.

Come on out and watch for free. Make sure you sign the waiver as soon as you can when you get onsite.

First car out is at 10:00 am.

Fair warning - most people who come out to watch end up participating at the next one, and then they're hooked!

Thanks I actually got a regular membership online yesterday and registered as a member for $25 online. I didn't get my card yet obviously but I did get an email from SCCA with my new member number etc which I will print out and bring.

Huh... it's funny how quickly things can change.

Turns out I may be looking for a ride for this event. If anyone is interested in a co-driver, please PM me your terms. Thanks!

Matt, thanks for clarifying all that. With my background, I'm very much a "letter of the law" kind of gal and so that's how I explain things.

For those of you that don't know, Bob Neff had the ponderous chore of being in charge of drawing up the revised Supplementals that are posted on the region web site. He did a great job.

How do you feel about street tires? Or were you hoping for something wankel powered?

Iain, I'd be happy to let you co-drive the Evo. But I've just installed the last thermostat in DFW. So if you blow another one, I'll be SOL.

I'm not a big fan of street tires. I appreciate the offer though.
