Default Wednesday Night 3-11-09 / The Economy

Looks like it's going to be nasty this Wednesday.

Any other suggestions other than standing in a parking lot in 30 degree weather with rain? My suggestion is somewhere in Plano besides Filmores.

I love Kellers but I won't be there this Wednesday if the weather sucks.

Edit: Chosen destination for this week is.....

    Shuck n' Jive
401 W. President George Bush Freeway, Suite 126
    Richardson, TX 75080

    7pm - ???

Kellers is definitely a good weather kind of meeting place!

lol. plus, 3 in a row and the populace might complain.
I probably won't make it this week, I've got way too much work to do, and we have been too busy during the day to get anything done for the last couple weeks.
According to the news media, the economy is in a slump, however Dallasites are still shopping!

Are they blowing the recession out of proportion a bit.....

You can thank my daughter for that - she gets a dollar and it's gone in sixty! She starts drooling and staring off into space if she can't shop.

From what I understand we're lucky to be in Texas where the economy has not been as affected.

President Bush planned to put all our Social Security money in the stock market. Wasn't that a great idea? Am I missing something?

We'd like to attend another event this Wed, but the more centrally located, the better. Not sure we'd make the trek to Plano, as we live south. How about some other Dallas locations, east or west? There is a lot of stuff on 35E near Regal Row and NW Hwy with plenty of parking.

Oh it's been affected, the City of Arlington eliminated their entire health department. More to come. I think that the property values just haven't dropped as bad as say....California - where they were over inflated to begin with. I get "zillow reports" now and then, and I've had a couple saying that my property value has dropped a thousand dollars here and a thousand dollars there...good time to buy a house if you're in the market.

I think the big problem here is mostly people living beyond their means. And I don't even like to THINK about what my retirement account has lost...I'm still contributing hoping that "buying low" will mean something in 10 years...

I'd like to propose something new...

Anyone up for Shuck-n-Jive? $1.50 drafts for the beer drinkers out there.

And it also happens to be "Wild Women Wednesday" as well! which might disqualify some folks.

I hate to be the one to bring it up but there is no money in the SS fund. Just IOU's. Now the pension fund for Congrss is fully funded.

Can a moderator spin all the economy stuff off into it's own thread?

    Back on topic.

I think Kellers is a great place and I would be fine if we made it the official Wednesday Night spot but it isn't great if it's cold or wet so I thought I'd get the ball rolling for a different spot this week since the weather is going to suck. Next time lets do Kellers and keep it Kellers when the weather is cooperating. Capiche?

I like the idea of Kellers as a default location, and planning for alternative "bad weather" locations. Even though its a 30 minute drive, Kellers is a lot of fun and very family-and-pet-friendly. Certainly, there is nothing from stopping west-siders, or anyone else, from arranging a simultaneous event closer to them, and that might be a fun way to involve even more forum members. Then we could merge the groups from time-to-time, and people could go to whichever location they preferred from week-to-week. The metroplex is certainly too big for any single location to please everyone.

4 and 1/2 posts about the economy and you want a mod to merge it, oh brother.

I will be doing something else, as I'm not making out to Keller's on a regular basis.

I also agree that the "economy" talk is a bit out-of-place in this thread.
