Thread: Google Navigation for Iphone?

  1. #1

    Question Google Navigation for Iphone?

Wife and kid got Iphones and are wanting navigation.

My Android Phone works great with Google Navigation but I'm not finding it in the Apple app store.

Can you get Google Navigation for iphones? The AT&T Navigation is weak....

    TIA

    POS,

I have been using Motion X GPS and has worked really well for me. Has a very unique feature of integrating the ipod music functionality while giving direction; ie music playing then music lowers and gives turn by turn directions then music resumes. Also audio directions goes thru bluetooth headset if using. Basically made my Garmin obsolete.

Whaaaaaat? My lowly iPhone 3GS has Google Maps and it'll give you directions if you want. Color me confused...

I haven't used my Garmin in a while, but I haven't been on an epic road trip in a while either. Even though the iPhone is a great multitasker (phone, maps, email, p0rn, stocks, dfwmiata, etc etc etc), I still prefer the Garmin as my nav tool of choice - mainly because it mounts nicely to the window and doesn't go dead if you don't touch it for 2 minutes (I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere). And if you keep the maps updated, it's quite the bloodhound when it comes to sniffing out food and gas in the wilds of West Texas.

Google Navigation makes Google maps work like your Garmin only better.

What I don't get is why don't they let you use Google Navigation but Google maps is standard equipment on an Iphone??

I can't believe you gave the evil empire (AT&T) more of your money!

The wife and I are both on Virgin Mobile (Sprint network) now with Android smart phones. She gets 1200 mins/unlimited text & web for $40 a month. I get 300 mins/unlimited text & web for $25 a month. No contracts.

Wow, that sucks. My Android came with 2 nav programs pre-installed... Google Navigation and TeleNav. Check to see if TeleNav is available for the iphone.

So, what's the catch? It seems like nothing in life comes free (or cheap, in this case).

I had a Virgin Mobile prepaid (on sprint network) for several years and loved it. I switched to T-Mobile last year because 1) I wanted a smart phone and Virgin didn't have one then, and 2) I was perturbed at the lack of sprint coverage anywhere within 30 miles of my parents house in NorCal.

No catch. You have to buy a phone (mine was $125 - LG Optimus V). Looks like they have raised their rates since we joined. The plan I'm on is now $35 a month, and my wife's is now $45 a month. (We are grandfathered and locked in at our original rates)

So, with an AT&T phone, I rarely find myself without coverage to at least make a call. I sometimes have to roam and use other cell company's systems if I am traveling, but at least I can use it if needed. Is that an option with Virgin, since it is a pre-paid phone?

I don't think you can roam. 99.9% of the time it shouldn't be an issue.

With the Sprint plan I'm on I get unlimited roaming (including data). That's one of the reasons I keep on Sprint even though their phones blow. Their CS has gotten way better over the last couple years though.
